Beat Pla'stic' pollution!- How to 'Stick' this message to people's mind??
I am currently travelling from Shivamogga to Mysore(karnataka, India) by bus. It is a 5 hours long journey(edit:7 hours)! Yet I must say, The journey is beautiful as I get to see the village life, the green vegetation and sometimes quick acquaintance with a fellow passenger.
But every coin has two sides. The view from the window with a faraway vision is a wonderful one, as mentioned- trees, sky, mud houses and many more. But the nearby vision at the side of the roads is a concern with "patches of Plastic".
'Whom to blame?' -is the question that is intruding my mind currently. The first culprit that comes to everyone’s mind is the "Government". Local, state or central government, whomsoever it is. They should have taken the measures to clean. Isn't it?? Well, if we twist the plot then we understand -who is the government!! Of course The people! The famous slogan goes this way "By the people, for the people and From the people". So, now the finger is pointing towards ourselves the 'people'. Yes! I too agree with it. Because, if the plastics weren't thrown on the road at the first instance, then the plastics wouldn't have been there on the road at all!
Now I will come back to my " Bus Journey". I was in 'Birur' a town in Chikmagalur district! The bus stopped for refreshment. The 'cucumber vendor' arrived inside the bus to sell his 'apparently' fresh Cucumbers. The co passengers purchased it. I would support them for this healthy snack with more water content and less( near to nil) calories. It keeps one hydrated to an extent!! That's fantastic!
Now, the annoying part that added to my dismay began. A co passenger threw the plastic cover, that once had the healthy Cucumber, on the road. The culprits were caught red handed by me. But I am not a police nor an Anti Garbage squad ( I put forth this Idea to create one).
The only thing I could do is tell her with utmost politeness "Please don't throw the plastic on the road. You are creating Garbage..". I could sense the annoyance on the face of the girl who threw it. She was somewhat my age, so I thought, I could preach the girl some more. Yet, I am not so 'Audacious' to put my words forward like an activist.
Well, yet another girl just in front of me, inspite of listening to my words clearly said in proper kannada, the native language of Karnataka, threw the plastic cover on the road. I was about to stop her but the plastic had landed on the road by then. I had to give the same 'preaching' with an extra addition 'please throw it in the dustbin'. The girl looked a bit younger than me. So, I thought I can be more assertive with my words. But that didn't work. She was quick enough to react 'where is the dustbin here?'.
If I have to describe my personality type by taking reference to the 'OCEAN model of Personality', it can be categorised as near 'introvert' putting efforts to be bold'😁, well I still need practice.
Now I have lost both the co passengers who have shifted their seats as far as possible from me to avoid my preachings. Now, I am sitting with a new Co-passenger hoping to not see another plastic being thrown on the road.
These kids need 'college sessions on Plastic polltion', I SAY!!!
Well, Now I am restricting my vision to the 'Faraway trees'.
The greenery is soothing!!
Pardon my English, I am travelling and typing with great efforts😀
Yours,
trying to distract myself from the intrusive thoughts of plastic polltion and enjoying the 'Faraway Vision' of the nature.
Dr.Nidhishree. @Ni"dhyana".
PS- I would love to hear from you😊
